When Is Dental Bonding Appropriate?
Dental bonding is an option that can be considered for repairing chipped or cracked teeth, to improve the appearance of teeth that are discolored, to close spaces between teeth, to make teeth longer or improve the shape of teeth, or to protect an exposed root due to gum recession.
What is the bonding procedure?
Very little advance preparation is needed to prepare the tooth and the process is so comfortable that anesthesia is often not necessary. Dr. Gladnick is adept at selecting the perfect resin shade for your tooth – no one will ever know that your tooth was bonded!
Now for the bonding process. The surface of the tooth will be slightly roughened to accept a conditioning liquid. This will enable the bonding material to adhere to the tooth. Next, a tooth-colored putty-like resin is molded to the desired shape. The resin is hardened with an halogen light. Finally, Dr. Gladnick will finesse the hardened material to match the sheen of the rest of the tooth’s surface. And here is the best part: Time-to-completion. Dental bonding takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.
Advantages of Dental Bonding
Bonding is comfortable and one of the least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures. It can usually be done in one office visit, unless several teeth are involved. Unlike other procedures such as veneers and crowns, the least amount of tooth surface is removed.
